American Diplomatic Response to the 1973-74 Energy Crisis
Lieber, Robert J.

ISBN: 1-56927-148-8 | Published: 1988 | No. Pages: 14

This case focuses on (a) the energy crisis that followed in the wake of the October 1973 war of Egypt and Syria against Israel and (b) an attempted oil embargo against the United States by the Arab oil-producing countries. This case pays particular attention to the tension in alliance relationships between the United States and the European members of NATO that followed in the aftermath of the crisis. This case also assesses the principal events and players and considers how this exercise of diplomatic maneuvering achieved its desired objectives despite the unpromising context in which the effort took place.
